The Nunatsiavut Department of Health and Social Development committee in conjunction with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Hopedale, participated in this year's World Food Day events.October 16 is World Food Day. Some objectives of the day's events are to heighten public awareness of the problem of hunger in the world; promote the transfer of technologies to the developing world; and strengthen international and national solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty and draw attention to achievements in food and agricultural development.

One of this year's events took place on Thursday October 14th, 2010 in the community of Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador. Police in Hopedale were provided the opportunity to participate in conjunction with Department of Health and Social Development in distributing several types of traditional meals to support World Food Day.

The food was distributed to residents in the community and with the active participation in the community, the event was a great success and fun was had by all.
