Innu Nation Grand Chief Prote Poker has expressed worry over what an RCMP investigation into the Innu Development Limited Partnership (IDLP) means for trust among the Innu people.

In October, IDLP board of directors ordered a review into payments made to former executives of the organization.

The review was carried out by former auditor general John Noseworthy who recommended last week that it sent be sent to the RCMP after he discovered potentially criminal activity.

An RCMP investigation has since be-gun into the matter.

“The divisiveness and mistrust in communities resulting from this investigation is unfortunate and of great concern to the Innu Nation leadership. We want to reassure our people of our commitment to be open and transparent in the decisions we make on behalf of the Innu people,” Poker said in a news release.

“Like everyone, we await the outcome of the RCMP investigation, however the Innu Nation does not feel it is productive to speculate on these findings.”

The IDLP’s board of directors is appointed by the elected band councils of both Sheshatshiu and Natuashish.

The purpose of the organization is to serve the economic interests of the Mushuau and Sheshatshiu Innu.
